Your Opinion Is Needed!
Can children be educated if the dress code is not upheld?
Is a failure to uphold the dress code why California is almost dead last in the world in education.
Is this why children in home schools are four grades ahead of public school students?
"Sex Education": Education, or sex?

Why do 8th grade home schoolers outperform 12th grade public schoolers?

SALON MAGAZINE DEFENDS HOMESCHOOLERS! Those homeschooled spelling-bee
champions can't go unpunished. Homeschooling mom Helen Cordes writes a
brilliant response to educators who complain that homeschoolers have an
unfair advantage over public-schooled kids, in this week's Salon. You'll
want to read both pages.

Gloating Bee champ: A bumper sticker that says "My homeschooled kid just
squeezed your schooled kid out of Stanford."
WHILE CALIFORNIA COUNTY ATTACKS HOMESCHOOLERS. The battle for homeschooling
is far from over, with a school district in California apparently setting
itself up to challenge the legality of home schools in the state. The
Berkeley Unified School District is demanding that four homeschooling
families produce evidence of their children's school attendance as well as
information regarding their educational curriculum. A spokeswoman for the
county's Office of Education said "We all have different feelings as to
whether home schooling is legal or not."

And we all have different feelings as to whether school boards can trammel
the right of good parents to raise their own children.
STOP THE PRESSES: PARENTS MATTER! A Salt Lake Trib editorial on
homeschooling opines that it is the involvement of parents that makes
homeschooling work. "A strength of home-schooling is that students are
never left behind. If a child fails to grasp a concept, the parent knows
immediately." But homeschooling, says the editorial, is only for the
wealthy and well educated.

Those of you who are sacrificing a nice house or a new minivan, and who are
learning alongside your children: Stop that!
FROM OUR "WHY DIDN'T WE SEE THIS EARLIER?" FILES: A Michigan sixth-grader
was flagged by his school as dangerous when he suggested during a class
discussion on school safety that some of the adults at the school should be
trained and allowed to carry firearms. School officials apparently told the
boy's parents in March that because of his comments he should be separated
from other students and forced to enter a "mentor" program where an adult
supervisor would "monitor [his] thought processes." The parents believe the
boy was singled out for refusing in January to sign an oath written by the
school principal to celebrate Martin Luther King's birthday. The boy is an
"A" student and has never been in trouble.

PREDATORY TEACHERS OF THE WEEK: A fourth-grade teacher in Mt. Vernon,
Washington, was arrested this week for possessing pornographic pictures of
young girls who appeared to be between the ages of 11 and 18. The man's
estranged wife turned him in to authorities.

Hell hath no fury like a pornographer's wife. But there's more:
TEACHER SENTENCED FOR FONDLING YOUNG GIRLS. A Seattle-area elementary
school teacher pled guilty this week to repeated, intentional and offensive
physical contact with fifth- and sixth-grade girls.

15-year-old special education student over a six-month period.

SCHOOL VIOLENCE REPORTS: A Blaine, Washington, high school student has
pleaded guilty to threatening to kill teachers and classmates at next
week's graduation. The boy was angry about years of torment by fellow
students. The harassment included name calling and physical threats over
the boy's slow academic progress and unfashionable clothing.

But at least he didn't miss any socialization!
STALKER ARRESTED. And a man was arrested this week after two years of
making bomb threats and shooting threats against two public schools in
Tacoma, Washington. The 31-year-old suspect told police he was motivated by
his hatred of teenage girls.
